A Red Hot Vision

Mila Kunis was my best dressed pick last night at the 17th Annual SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) Awards. She was a definite stunner in a blood-orange flowy strapless chiffon gown by Alexander McQueen (My fave!) and was draped in jewels by Cartier (Her bangle was a show-stopping piece!). The belt added an extra special touch to the gown as well, which made it look like an empire waist sihoulette (mind you, empire silhoulettes look good on any body type). Mila stated that this was the most comfortable dress she's ever worn.

Burberry S/S '11 Ad Campaign

Nothing feels more like Summer when you're at the beach, and so Burberry's new Ad Campaign features that for Spring/Summer 2011. British models Cara Delevingne and Jacob Young star in the new campaign, and I think that they made a pretty good-looking couple, don't you think?

Lady Gaga "Born This Way" for Thierry Mugler

This is one hot video. Lady Gaga has collaborated with Thierry Mugler by creating a remix of her single "Born This Way" for the designer's Fall/Winter 2011 fashion show. Fashion photographer Mariana Vivanco shot the video in black and white and Canadian model David Genest, known for his full body of tattoos stars in the film.

Christian Dior Spring '11 Couture

This past week, John Galliano wowed the audience with his Spring 2001 couture show by bringing in the 40's glamour. Haute couture is French for 'high dress-making', and refers to the creation of well made custom made clothing. Often, couture is for people who have loads of money, but it doesn't hurt to just appreciate the beauty of the clothes.

Andy The Anh for Lole

Andy The Anh, a Vietnamese-Canadian fashion designer based in Montreal, has been appointed as chief designer for lifestyle/active wear brand Lole. This is a drastic move for the designer as he is well known for his exquisite cocktail dresses and gowns.

S/S '11 Trend: Strut it Like a Rockstar

Jean Paul Gaultier

Usually when one thinks of the warmer seasons, they think of light, soft, flowy and pastel colours. These looks are dark, masculine and edgy. How more rocker-ish can you get with cropped jackets, suede pants, fringe and leather gear?! But wait a minute, don't you think these things appeal more for the Fall season?

Price Increase Alert!

Oh my, when I heard the news, I knew it would be that much more difficult to get my dream bags. Why oh why did the fashion gods have to do this? So, to burst your bubble ladies: Hermes, Dior and Chanel will be having their price increases nearing the end of next week. *Cringe*

Yorkdale to Get Another Makeover

Yorkdale announced today that it will be getting another makeover, and it's going to cost them a pretty penny. The new renovation will cost them approximately $220 million and it scheduled to be completed by late 2012. When finished, Yorkdale will have:

I’ve Been Bad...

Totally disregarding my latter post on saving money, I did a little shopping the past week (I know, you can slap me now). Sooo here were my purchases (they all happened to be footwear):

Say NO to Fakes and Start Saving Already!

Are you a full-time university/college student? Have you been eyeing on that Chanel or Louis Vuitton handbag for quite some time now, but can’t seem to fork out the money for it? Do you go to Chinatown to buy a fake to compensate that expense? If you answer yes to the last question then tsk tsk...although having a love of fashion can be an expensive interest, no girl should go about and purchase fake goods. There are many cons to buying fake designer items, and I highly suggest you take these things into consideration. You’re probably thinking, “What the hell does this have to do with me?” Well then, let me intrigue you! Fake designer goods are responsible for the loss of many jobs, human trafficking, child labour (children as young as 10 years old), as well as gang warfare. Counterfeiting is linked to money laundering, and that leads to terrorism. Worried yet? You better be! So, now, how can you not buy fake goods and be able to afford the real deal?!? You better save up girl! It can be really hard when you’re a working student, but in the end, it pays off and I mean it! Here are some sure fire tips on how to save money for that designer item that you’ve always dreamed of, and trust me, it doesn’t take years:

Amanda Lew Kee Spring 2011 Collection Launch @ Jacflash

On a cold winter evening, Jacflash held an event which featured Amanda Lew Kee's new Spring 2011 collection, and it sure did not disappoint. The event itself was phenomenal, and the refreshments were generous (who doesn't love cupcakes, vitamin water and vodka?!) I trekked out in the snow with my gal pals in anticipation of the event to support Amanda Lew Kee. It was so worth it! Upon arrival at Jacflash, I did not know what to expect, as this was one of my first fashion events to attend to. We were there about 30 minutes early, which gave us plenty of time to roam around and try stuff on at this chic little boutique. The sales associates were friendly and welcoming, as they greeted each and every guest that entered through the door and offered refreshments. The decor of Jacflash was simplistic, modern and unique. I adored the chandelier over the cash desk. It added an extra special touch to the store! The store displays and mannequins were well dressed and placed, and clothing items ranged from knit cardigans to (faux) fur jackets and vests. Having opened up shop for 3 years, Jacflash owner Jaclyn Genovese is happy to have the success that she has had.

Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2011 Collection

Oh Alexander McQueen, how I love thee. The designer brand's creative director Sarah Burton has done it again in the 2011 pre-fall collection. Before Burton' reign as head designer, the late (Lee) Alexander McQueen was known for his sharp tailoring (I LOVE his jackets) and masculine cuts in the Woman's ready-to-wear line.

Target Moving Up North of the Border

You might have heard this already: popular US retail chain Target will soon be coming on Canadian soil as it plans to replace Canadian retailer (owned by the Hudson's Bay Company) Zellers. Approximiately 220 Zellers locations will be bought out by Target. The 'cheap-chic' retailer plans to open 100 to 150 stores by 2013/2014.

Killer Winter Gear: Boots

Another important staple that everyone (that includes both genders, not just females) should have during the winter months are boots. Now, I know what you're saying: how can winter boots keep you warm AND be stylish at the same time? Easy. Along with Uggs, more brands are coming out with winter boots that are sure to please. Here are a couple of brands that I think are very eye-catching:

Canadian Model as the New Face of Louis Vuitton

Taiwanese-Canadian model Godfrey Gao is the new face of Louis Vuitton. Hailing from Vancouver, Gao is the first Asian male model to represent the coveted luxury house which specializes in leather goods. The new Spring/Summer 2011 ad campaign features Gao with one of the brand's trademark Damier messenger bags in Graphite Canvas. This will be the first of many more ad campaigns for Gao as he has been dubbed the first Asian male supermodel for this gig.

Fendi Spring 2011 Handbags and Footwear

Floral Zucchino
Boston Bag
$795

Holt Renfrew recently released these images of the new Fendi handbags and footwear for Spring 2011. The pastel, neutral colours and floral prints really make this collection the eptiome of romance! I really do love how Fendi's deisgns are simple yet understated.

Wowzers...

Is it just me, or is that outfit just TOO EXTRA?!? Like it or not, Nicki Minaj stepped out in this concoction recently and I like the fact that she doesn't have a care in the world about what people think.

Joe Fresh Coming Soon at a Mall Near You

With collection launches at Toronto Fashion Week, Joe Fresh has been gaining more popularity as of recent. A 'cheap chic' lifestyle brand, Joe Fresh offers stylish apparel and accessories for women, men and children at affordable prices which is a sure hit in an ecomony where inflation seems to hurt most people's wallets.

Less Than a Week Away...

...Till the continuation of Gossip Girl! This television series is one of my favourite all time shows to watch. Although I do not have much time to catch it on my TV screen, I can always use my trusty internet to look for episodes online. I go to a site called casttv.com, which has practically every show listed for your viewing pleasure. The next episode of Gossip Girl will air Monday January 24th, and as per usual, the style gods of the show did a fantastic job dressing up the cast members. I really love Serena and Blair's outfits! They really do fit the winter weather, don't you think? Here are some stills and behind the scenes photos of upcoming episodes.

Killer Winter Gear: Jackets

In a city with an abundant number of Geese (Canada Goose, that is), one would want to stand out from the crowd when it comes to warding off extremely cold weather. Fortunately, more and more companies are stepping up the game to compete with the one and only, Canada Goose. To be honest, I am sick of seeing every single person rocking the Goose. Sure they may be warm, and come in different colours and styles, but there are alternatives that look just as great as well as do the job too. Here is a compiled list of winter worthy jackets.

Rock Princess

No words could describe how stunning Olivia Wilde looked at the 68th Annual Golden Globes held last Sunday, January 16, 2011. The sparkly tulled princess-like dress from Marchesa married with statement gold and dangerously spiked Christian Louboutin booties makes her the ultimate rock princess of the night!

Tis' the Sale Season After the Holidays

During the Christmas holiday season, people swarm to the malls and shop to their heart's content. What I did was avoid the malls during November/December by working during my holiday break, and shop when January comes around. Not only fall/winter merchandise goes on sale during this month, but on CLEARANCE! Ahhh, what wonderful music to my ears. My favourite time is when most stores give their final cut and advertise additional percentages off already reduced merchandise! Now that we're in mid-January, prices go even lower as spring/summer collections emerge. Here are a list of sales that I know are worth-while making the trip through the cold weather for:

A New Year, A New Beginning...

Welcome to my blog! I am very excited as this is my first venture into the world of blogging. Now, I know, you're probably thinking that this is just another blog about fashion and such (as there are countless fashion blogs out there already), but I believe that blogging is a way to express oneself in a unique way. Before I go onwards with this tangent, allow me to introduce myself: my name is Swe3tGirl (I will use this name as a pseudonym), and I am a full-time university student studying education in Toronto. I also work part-time (you could really consider it full-time considering I work 30+ hours per week) at a restaurant as a hostess.
