Say NO to Fakes and Start Saving Already!

Are you a full-time university/college student? Have you been eyeing on that Chanel or Louis Vuitton handbag for quite some time now, but can’t seem to fork out the money for it? Do you go to Chinatown to buy a fake to compensate that expense? If you answer yes to the last question then tsk tsk...although having a love of fashion can be an expensive interest, no girl should go about and purchase fake goods. There are many cons to buying fake designer items, and I highly suggest you take these things into consideration. You’re probably thinking, “What the hell does this have to do with me?” Well then, let me intrigue you! Fake designer goods are responsible for the loss of many jobs, human trafficking, child labour (children as young as 10 years old), as well as gang warfare. Counterfeiting is linked to money laundering, and that leads to terrorism. Worried yet? You better be! So, now, how can you not buy fake goods and be able to afford the real deal?!? You better save up girl! It can be really hard when you’re a working student, but in the end, it pays off and I mean it! Here are some sure fire tips on how to save money for that designer item that you’ve always dreamed of, and trust me, it doesn’t take years:
  • Stop going out to eat! I know, it is difficult (even for myself) to not go out to eat when you’re in Toronto and you have no time to pack a lunch, but taking 10 min out of your morning routine helps out to saving a lot of money.
  • If you do go out to eat, don’t order alcohol or any drink that requires you to pay! Always order water. It’s healthier and quenches up your thirst just fine.
  • No more Starbucks, Timmies, Second Cup...you name it! Ordering a latte each and every day adds up. Like I said, water is the way to go. Bring a sustainable/stainless steel water bottle or drink from a water fountain on campus or at the mall.
  • Don’t use a credit card if you don’t have the money to pay it back. Many girls make this mistake and it just screws them up. They say that you should spend less than what you make. Done deal.
  •  Take out a bit of your pay check and put it into your savings. This strategy works wonders! It adds up pretty quickly as well. Take a bit out of your pay check (you get paid every 2 weeks, so you save twice a month) and put it into your savings where you can’t touch or see it. If you work in the restaurant business, use your tip money and save your pay checks or vice versa depending on your spending needs.
  • Don’t spend money on a monthly gym membership. Instead, do yoga at home or run around your neighbourhood.
  • Avoid the mall. If you can’t see it, then you won’t want it; if you don’t want it, then you don’t spend it.
If you follow these tips, you will for sure save enough for that designer item that you’ve always wanted to have. Share any other money saving tips if I’ve missed any, and let me know of your progress! Good luck =)

Yours truly,
Swe3tGirl
